2026 HR Excellence Awards

The HR Excellence Awards recognize outstanding HR professionals who are making a meaningful impact on their organizations, employees, and communities. These awards celebrate leadership, innovation, and dedication to advancing the HR profession while highlighting individuals who exemplify excellence in people strategy, workplace culture, talent development, and organizational success. We are proud to honor both seasoned HR leaders and emerging professionals whose contributions help shape the future of work.

The HR Excellence Awards will be presented during the 2027 HR Conference. Honors will be given for HR Executives of the Year and Emerging HR Leader:

  • HR Executive of the Year - For-Profit Organization | Large Employer
  • HR Executive of the Year - For-Profit Organization | Small Employer
  • HR Executive of the Year - Health & Human Services Organization | Large Employer
  • HR Executive of the Year - Health & Human Services Organization | Small Employer
  • Emerging HR Leader

HR Executive of the Year Awards

Criteria

Each nomination will be evaluated based on the nominee's commitment to the HR profession, successes in his or her past as well as current positions, contributions to the community, impact on the lives of others, and the success of his or her organization.  

Nominees must meet the following criteria:

  1. Currently employed as an HR executive
  2. Is the company’s highest-ranking HR person residing in Michigan
  3. Has at least 10 years of HR management experience
  4. Demonstrates consistent proven successes, enthusiasm, and leadership/support of the HR profession
  5. Applies professional experience both inside and outside his or her company.

One winner is selected from each category:

  • HR Executive of a for-profit organization with fewer than 1,000 employees
  • HR Executive of a for-profit organization with 1,000 or more employees
  • HR Executive of a health & human services organization with fewer than 500 employees
  • HR Executive of a health & human services organization with 500 or more employees

A selection committee consisting of ASE board members, past award recipients, and HR Executives - men and women who know the HR profession and the demands and expectations placed on an HR Executive today - will consider each nomination and select the award winners. Each nomination will be evaluated based on the nominee's commitment to the HR profession, successes in his or her past as well as current positions, contributions to community, impact on the lives of others, and the success of his or her organization.

Emerging HR Leader Award

Criteria

Each nomination should recognize a rising HR professional who demonstrates exceptional potential and impact in the field of Human Resources including both current contributions and future promise.

Nominees must meet the following criteria:

1. Currently employed as an HR professional in Michigan.
2. Has 3-6 years of experience in the HR field
3. Displays strong leadership qualities, even without formal leadership titles.
4. Proven contributions to innovative HR initiatives (e.g. talent development, employee engagement, HR technology, etc.)
5. Pursuing continuous learning (e.g., certifications, advanced degrees, professional development).
6. Contributions to the broader HR community through speaking, writing, mentoring, or volunteering.
