Worker COVID-19 Exposure Protocol Updated

As COVID-19 has resurged, safety protocols for workers have been updated by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Michigan’s Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). In addition to guidance for unvaccinated persons on quarantining after close contact with someone with COVID, the updated protocol also includes guidance for people who are fully vaccinated and exposed.

Close contact exposure is still considered being withing six feet of an infected person for a cumulative period of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period starting from two days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic patients, two days prior to test specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated.

The guidance states vaccinated workers exposed but not exhibiting symptoms do not have to quarantine.  However, the newest guidance states that people who are fully vaccinated should get tested 3-5 days after their exposure, even they don’t have symptoms and wear a mask indoors in public for 14 days following exposure or until their test result is negative.

This is a strategic balancing act for HR professionals. Join Linda Olejniczak, Director of Research and Event Planning at ASE as we look at the roadmap ahead for employers and examine different paths. Linda will be joined by Michael Burns, Executive Vice President at ASE, to review policies that will support the direction your company takes.
