Virtual Class: Managing Change for Supervisors and Managers

If there is one constant in business today, it is change. Changes in organizational strategies, in the way work gets done, and in the way people work together. These changes present new demands and challenges for everyone in the organization, especially managers. Managers have a two-fold responsibility when it comes to change: handle their own response and their team’s adjustment. The ability to navigate through change whilst managing others successfully is critical.

This two-hour interactive session is based on the concept that organizations don’t change, people change, one person at a time. If the people impacted by a change do not support and engage in the change, then the particulars of that change, including new processes, systems or job roles, are not realized. If these particulars are not achieved, then we fail to achieve the purpose of the change project. In short, the business objectives are not met. Managers are central to making this happen.

During this course we will discuss how people naturally respond to change and how to leverage those responses to maximize change effectiveness. Participants will be introduced to the popular ADKAR goal-oriented change management model and learn how to manage their team members as they work through change. Attendees apply tools and insights gained to a change that is currently underway in their workplace, and develop a plan to move through it.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Define change and the sources of change
  • Describe the role of a manager as a change agent
  • Identify their employees’ stage of transition in a change
  • Describe the elements of the ADKAR change model
  • Apply ADKAR to manage their team through a current change
