A Letter from Mary E. Corrado, ASE President & CEO

Since March, our nation has been dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.  But there is something much bigger our nation has been fighting for a much longer time – racial injustice. Michigan employers need to lead and encourage diversity, inclusion, and respect in every aspect of the workplace. As an employer association, ASE will do everything we can to support employers in their diversity and inclusion efforts.

Employers recognized for the best workplaces strive to promote equality and respect in its workforce.  We all have biases, but we need to understand the basis of our biases so we can reduce their impact in our work and our lives.  If bias is perceived, it is real to those who perceive it.  Managers and employees must be trained to understand when biases are impacting their behaviors and decision making.

ASE has supported our members’ equal employment, affirmative action, and diversity programs for decades and will continue to do so. I am happy to announce an upcoming webinar on recognizing unconscious bias. I encourage all members to attend.

Webinar: It You’re Human, You’re Biased: How Our Biases Impact Our Decisions, Interactions, and Perceptions

July 10, 2020
11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

As we move through this challenging time, let’s do all that we can as employers to encourage diversity and inclusion in our workplaces.  ASE is here to help and support you as we all work together diminish the impact of bias and eliminate racial discrimination in the workplace.

Sincerely,

Mary E. Corrado
