We’re in This Together

COVID-19 has hit Michigan and the nation harder than anyone expected. Many ASE member organizations have stepped up to provide services and produce items in need.  I am very proud to have them as ASE members and would like to recognize a few of the organizations currently helping out:

General Motors
General Motors (GM) has announced it will produce 50,000 surgical masks per day from its Warren plant in the next two weeks with hopes to increase to 100,000 per day.  They also intend to start producing 10,000 ventilators per month by as early as mid-May in partnership with Ventec Life Systems.  They intend to produce a total of 200,000 ventilators.

Ford
Ford is also working to produce tens of thousands of ventilators. To do so, they have partnered with GE Healthcare, a ventilator producer.  They plan to create 50,000 ventilators by July 4.  In addition, Ford's wholly owned subsidiary, Troy Design and Manufacturing in Plymouth, produced 75,000 masks for local hospitals.

Fiat Chrysler
Fiat Chrysler has a plant in Asia that is being converted to produce face masks.  They are targeting to produce 1 million masks per month.  They also began manufacturing ventilator components in Italy.

Magna
Magna divisions and employees around the world are donating gloves to hospitals, meals to health-care workers, and hygiene kits to shelters.  They are also in discussions to help produce parts for ventilators, face shields, and more.

HoMedics
HoMedics is producing masks and other PPE.  They will deliver 550,000 face masks to area hospitals and other facilities in need of PPE.  They plan to make 25 million masks for healthcare systems across the county and have donated thousands of N95 face masks to the state with plans to donate more.

Carhartt
Carhartt is making masks and gowns to protect healthcare workers.  They intend to produce 50,000 medical gowns and 2.5 million masks.

MichBio
MichBio members are working with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority to review more than 1,800 therapeutic, diagnostic, and vaccine submissions.  MichBio conducted a webinar last week discussing the readiness to address the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and speed up the development of vaccines.

Little Caesars
Little Caesars recently announced that they will donate and deliver a million pizzas to health care workers and first responders across the U.S.

I want to extend our sincere thanks to ASE members providing lifesaving healthcare, including Beaumont Health, Henry Ford Health System, Trinity Health, IHA Health Services, McLaren Health Care, Mercy General Health Partners, MidMichigan Health, Michigan Medicine, Scheurer Healthcare Network, University Pediatricians, Envision Healthcare,  Medstar Ambulance, and Global Medical Response. Thank you for all you do.

The list goes well beyond what I have compiled here.  I know each and every one our members is doing all they can.  Please email me and let me know how your organization or another member organization is contributing to the ongoing fight against COVID-19 at [email protected]. We are all in this together.
