SIA Honors Female Leadership in the Staffing and Recruiting Industry

female executiveThis past November Staffing Industry Analysts (SIA) announced its 2019 honorees for the Global Power 150 Women in Staffing.  This list honors female trail blazers within the global talent industry.

The list highlights women in leadership and showcases their innovations within the industry. The list is not limited to a specific title held as it consists of business owners, CEOs, executives, and lawyers – those who played a significant role in molding a nearly $500 billion global industry. In their press release, published last month, SIA’s Editor and Publisher, Media Products, Subadhra Sriram says; “The women named to this year’s Global Power 150 list play an important role in bringing value to the workforce solutions ecosystem, elevating not only the bottom line for their organizations but lifting up their teams through a passionate focus on employee development and creation of positive and inclusive cultures in which talent thrives. As we celebrate this year’s honorees for their achievements in taking the industry forward, we also continue to be inspired by women across companies big and small bringing benefit to business and society, and share in the desire to see more women with a seat at the table.”

Among those honored this year are:

  • Susan Salka, CEO AMN Healthcare – the largest healthcare staffing provider in the world.
  • Hetel Parikh, Co-founder and President of Rangam Consultants Inc - $30 million minority-woman and disability-owned supplier of global workforce solutions
  • Patrizia Fulgoni, CEO of Life in Spa employment agency and former VP of Assolavoro, the Italian National Association of Staffing Agencies
  • Autumn Vaupel, COO for Beeline – Software solutions for sourcing and managing supplemental workforce.

Ironically, the percentage of women in senior roles is declining. Women held under a quarter (24%) of senior roles across the world in 2018, a decrease from 25% in 2017.  In addition, between 2017 and 2018, the share of female CEOs in the Fortune 500 dropped by a whopping 25%. Women represent just 5% of Fortune 500 CEOs—down from 6% in 2017.

The business case for getting more women in leadership has never been stronger. The Global Leadership Forecast 2018, published by DDI, The Conference Board, and EY, showed that organizations that have at least 30% women in leadership are 1.4 times more likely to have sustained profitable growth.

Women tend to manage with transformational leadership. Transformational leaders aim to enhance the motivation, morale, and job performance of followers by working with teams to identify needed change, to create a shared vision, and to guide through inspiration.  Here are some key tactics of transformational leaders:

  1. They seek to be a role model who inspires their subordinates.
  2. They invest a lot of time in coaching their team members and care about their personal development.
  3. They emphasize teamwork and authentic communication as a key to success.
